As Dexter heads to its fourth season, Dexter Morgan has seemingly turned over a new leaf. He's now a father and not just to Rita's children but to his own flesh and blood as well. While we all know that no good can come of this since he's still working the thin line between cop and criminal, entering into fatherhood might just be what Dexter needs to fill the void in his life and tear down his emotional armor.
So the question remains: Is Dexter going to be a good father? We can find out as the show kicks off its fourth season on Sunday, September 27. Meanwhile, here are some parenting suggestions from Dexter Morgan's point of view.
Always Clean Up After YourselfIf there's anything Dexter knows best, it's cleaning up after making a mess. This process has actually become second nature to Dexter ever since his diseased father Harry taught him the "code" to cover his tracks as a killer, and he's become quite the expert on the subject.
Establish a Bedtime RoutinePutting children to bed isn't always easy but knowing Dexter, he'll probably resort to creating a well thought out bedtime routine to escape the duties of fatherhood. After all, most of his activities, whether police-related or not, happens at night. As a very playful dad, he spends time outdoors with the kids to run and play, leaving them worn-out and exhausted by bedtime. The less you deviate from the routine, the easier bedtime will become.
Manage Your Time
Like most people, Dexter has always struggled to manage his precious time. But it's a very different and complicated scenario now that he's juggling work as a blood spatter analyst, a serial killer, a husband and a father. But without doubt, he'll be able to pull it off with the art of distraction. While Dexter can think of an excuse to spend more time away from home almost instantly, he's also likely to get kids involved in some sort of menial task or letting them watch cartoons as a diversion.
Take a Neutral RoleHaving more than one child is always fun but the downside is that they tend to fight among themselves. Dexter will soon get caught in this dilemma but seeing him deal with kids in the past hints that he'll able to handle this quite easily. While he's always taken a neutral role, he's also the type who doesn't get involved and listens from a distance while watching the argument pan out and get resolved on its own.
Learn from Your Childhood
Dexter had a very disturbing childhood but that's not to say that his kid will follow his serial killing footsteps later on. Knowing the value of parental guidance, he's bound to steer his child into a life that's different from the way Harry has raised him.
