And you thought the winter break for most shows meant little news? Tonight's casting roundup features a lot of them -- from a new guy on Wisteria Lane to a new (former) partner for Fizbo the clown. But first, let's go to Broadway, shall we?Uma Thurman is headed to your television screens:
the Kill Bill
star is headed to NBC's musical series Smash
for a major five-episode stint, according to Deadline
. Thurman plays a popular (and difficult to work with) movie star who eyes the lead role in the Marilyn Monroe musical upon which the series revolves. While this is her first role in a TV series, this isn't her first time in the small screens: she won a Golden Globe for the HBO movie Hysterical Blindness
Ed Asner turns back the clock: Deadline reports
that he will appear on Hawaii Five-0
as August March, a formerly notorious smuggler who has since changed his ways after thirty years in prison. That, by the way, is the same role he plays in the original Five-0
back in 1975, although back them August was still a smuggler. This time around, he resurfaces when the team asks for his help in a new smuggling case.
Also, nostalgia buffs: his episode (he will appear in several) will feature footage from the original Five-0. Nice wink.
One goes out of Wisteria Lane, and another goes in:
what is it with Bree? First up, All My Children
's Cameron Mathison joins Desperate Housewives
as one of Bree's lovers, and according to his Twitter feed
, taking off his top might be involved. This marks his first TV appearance since AMC
signed off three months back.
Still on the topic of Bree's lovers, Entertainment Weekly reports
that Roger Bart -- who once played another one of her lovers, pharmacist George Williams -- is headed to CSI
as a wig maker who primarily serves women battling cancer. Not exactly sure whether he's as creepy as George ever was, but with news that his episode will appear during February sweeps, I'm betting it is the case.
Bobby Cannavale clowns around:
the Will & Grace
star has booked a role on ABC's Modern Family
as Louis, the former (professional) partner of Cameron's clown alter-ego Fizbo, according to TVLine
. It's not clear whether his return means good news for Cam, though. Or to Phil, for that matter, considering his fear of clowns...
Denis O'Hare is headed back to The Good Wife:
the True Blood
and American Horror Story
star will reprise his role as Judge Abernathy, according to TV Guide
. His return is slated to air this January.
And yet another television judge: Kevin Pollak has signed on for a guest role on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
as a judge who finds himself on the wrong side of the law. TV Guide reports
that his episode, which airs January 11, also features Fisher Stevens (previously of Damages
) and Grant Shaud (remember him as the neurotic Miles on Murphy Brown
