'Partridge' Mom Joining 'Days'
As NBC's Days of our Lives prepares to say goodbye to Julie Pinson, who plays Billie Reed, a well-known figure from the family-show genre is gearing up to join the daytime drama's cast.

Academy Award winner Shirley Jones, most known for her portrayal of widowed single mother Shirley Partridge on ABC's The Partridge Family, will be appearing on Days of our Lives on a limited run.  She is expected to appear on the show throughout the February Sweeps period.

Jones confirmed the news in an interview with Variety.

"It's hard work," Jones told Variety's Armand “Army” Archerd.  "I didn't want to do it, but they gave me more money than -- ”

For the role, Jones will be speaking with an Irish accent, and is currently training with Robert Easton, a prominent dialect coach.

Jones has had a prolific career in the entertainment industry. She has an impressive resume, both onscreen and stage.  Her screen credits include the films Oklahoma! April Love, Carousel, Beyond the Poseidon Adventure and Raising Genius, and the shows Monarch Cove, The Drew Carey Show, Burke's Law, and of course, The Partridge Family.  As for her theater work, Jones has performed in such productions as Maggie Flynn, The Sound of Music and The King & I.

On Days of our Lives, Jones will be playing Colleen Brady, the supposedly dead great-aunt of Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney).  Colleen's story has been made known to viewers using letters exchanged between her and Santo DiMera (played by James Scott in flashback scenes), an Italian businessman with whom she had a forbidden and tragic love affair.  It is presumed that Colleen died young, although just how she died remains a question mark.

The network has yet to announce a first airdate for Jones, although she is expected to make her last appearance sometime in March.  The network also has not commented on when Pinson will be last seen on Days of our Lives.
