Joe Penny Cast as Ava's Dad on 'Days of Our Lives'
Yesterday marked the debut appearance of one of the most recent additions to the cast of NBC's Days of Our Lives.  Ricky Dean Logan made his first showing as Earl Larson, a former employee of the Vitali household.  In yesterday's episode, Earl shared key information with Bo (Peter Reckell) and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans), who were looking for their missing spouses, Hope (Kristian Alfonso) and Steve (Stephen Nichols).  Logan is due to come out in another episode of the soap on April 25.  There has been no word to date whether Logan will have more appearances beyond that date.

Pretty soon, another new face will grace the Days of Our Lives landscape and perhaps become more of a fixture in Salem than Ricky Dean Logan's character.  Veteran actor Joe Penny has just landed the part of Martino Vitali, patriarch of the Vitali family.

According to Soap Opera Digest, the role of Martino, Ava's (Tamara Braun) father, was originally up for stunt-casting.  It turns out the daytime drama eventually decided on the 52-year old star of such `80s fare as Riptide and Jake and the Fatman.  Penny's stint as Ava's dad begins May 2.

In other news, Lauren Koslow, who stars as Kate Roberts on Days of Our Lives, will help promote earth-friendliness during the coming Earth Day celebration at Universal Studios.  The Hollywood Eco-Fair will take place on Saturday, April 26, from 10am to 4pm.  The event will feature more than 30 educational displays, celebrity guests, free parking for hybrid cars and even a hazardous waste disposal campaign sponsored by the City and County of Los Angeles.

Koslow, along with Melora Hardin from The Office, will sign special eco-friendly bags and give out energy-efficient light bulbs at the Environmental Media Association's booth.  The Earth Day Eco-Fair will also showcase curious, interactive exhibits by Bell's Bugs, La Knitterie Parisienne and the Hollywood Beautification Team.
