Lawrence Taylor and Edyta Sliwinska - Jive
Lawrence and Edyta survived elimination in the dance-off, but this week, Lawrence is having a hard time with the jive. He gets frustrated learning his steps, swearing up a storm, so Warren Sapp pays him a visit to the rehearsal studio, where he himself competed not too long ago. We finally see some personality out of Lawrence. With Warren Sapp egging him on, he finally looks like he's starting to have some fun.
Tonight, Edyta is wearing these leg warmers and a drapey top that doesn't really cover anything. But unfortunately, Lawrence isn't as light on his feet as Warren Sapp was. His movements are still very studied, not free and unencumbered like the jive should be. Uh oh, Edyta does a flippy thing over Lawrence; does that count as a lift?
Carrie Ann is so happy that Lawrence got his groove back, although she tsks Edyta for the lift. Len is surprised to find a lighter side of Lawrence's personality. He could have been lighter on his feet, but overall, Len likes the performance. Bruno compliments Lawrence that he was perfectly on beat throughout the whole routine, and says it was his best dance yet.
The scores:
Carrie Ann: 7
Len: 7
Bruno: 8
Total: 22 out of 30, Lawrence's best score yet
Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani - Rumba
Last week, Melissa slipped a bit in the leaderboard because she caught her heel on her dress which made her slip. This week, she spends a lot of time learning how to get into the character of the rumba. She has an easier time of it than the paso, despite Tony being a total goofball in rehearsal. I'm expecting a whole lot out of these two for the rumba, man!
Their outfits tonight and kind of hippie flower-child meets ballroom. I really have to commend Melissa for doing such a great job in manufacturing chemistry with Tony. It's a really sexy routine. The rumba is a lot slower, so you really have to make every step perfect, and Melissa is doing just that. The ending choreography is a big embrace, but as soon as the music ends, Melissa playfully shoves him away.
Len likes the interesting choreography and the precision, but he wishes that Melissa could have put a more earthy quality to the rumba, rather than being so balletic. Bruno also wants Melissa to be a maneater. (Tom makes a comment that Bruno looks like one of those big inflatable people at car lots. Ha!) Carrie Ann makes the point that Melissa needs to commit to the hip motion, but otherwise, she loves the performance.
The scores:
Carrie Ann: 9
Len: 9
Bruno: 9
Total: 27 out of 30
