This is one of a series of brief articles meant to introduce the DWTS viewer to each of the season 13 celebrities. Until Dancing with the Stars begins and we get our TV introductions, this will have to do!
Why You Know HimJ.R. Martinez is best known for his role as Brot Monroe on the soap opera
All My Children. The character, like J.R. himself, was a former soldier injured in the line of duty. J.R. played this part from October of 2008 until this year.
J.R. is also quite well-known as a motivational speaker, working especially with various veterans' associations. The injuries suffered by Martinez came about in 2003 in Iraq, when a Humvee he was driving hit a landmine.
Why He's on Dancing with the StarsWith the demise of daytime soap operas, J.R. Martinez is losing his main source of celebrity (and probably income). If he is looking for further acting or performing opportunities,
Dancing with the Stars is a good way to be noticed.
Dancing/Performance ExperienceJ.R.'s performance background is fairly limited, even if his charisma has the ability to overcome any basic deficits in other areas.
DWTS PotentialHonestly, J.R. Martinez seems like the potentially biggest wildcard in season 13 of
Dancing with the Stars. He's not particularly well-known but has what is easily one of the best stories of the celebrities. His status as a war hero certainly gets people interested. On the other hand, he's an unknown quantity that can be dismissed if he doesn't dance so well.
