The rumors about season 7 of
Dancing with the Stars are continuing to swirl, and this time, it's actually pretty exciting!
According to the
New York Daily News, former *NSYNC member Lance Bass is “locked and loaded” for the next season of ABC's dancing reality show. The thing is, though, that ABC executives are trying to decide whether to give him a male partner or a female partner! Lance Bass, who is openly gay, could be one-half of the first same-sex partner in the history of
Dancing with the Stars!
This is exciting on a lot of levels. Ever since
Steve Guttenberg and
Jonathan Roberts danced their “man-go” last season of the show, I've been anxiously awaiting a same-sex partnership. Steve and Jonathan's performance was mostly played for laughs – Jonathan was stepping in for his wife
Anna Trebunskaya because she was sick that day – and it was great fun, but imagine if there were a serious same-sex couple vying for the mirror ball trophy!
The question we have to ask now is which male
Dancing with the Stars professional should Lance be paired with? At 5'10”, Lance is pretty tall, but not too tall, so there is a lot of flexibility in who he would be well-matched with. The dancer who immediately comes to mind is
Mark Ballas. Mark would be a great candidate for the first same-sex couple because he looks like such a great, easy-going kind of guy. He has a good sense of humor and seems like he could have fun in any situation. I could really get behind a Lance-Mark pairing.
If Lance Bass does end up on the show, he won't be the first former *NSYNCer. “The fat one,”
Joey Fatone, made it to second place with his professional partner and dance instructor
Kym Johnson way back in season 4. Joey Fatone has taken advantage of his exposure on
Dancing with the Stars to appear on third-rate programs such as
The Singing Bee and
Celebrity Circus. If we extrapolate, then, we can expect to see Lance Bass next winter, hosting the next mediocre reality show.
