Dancing with the Stars seems like it has been all about medical reports and injuries this season, but let us not forget that there is actual dancing too! Tonight, we have another full evening of performances.
Just to remind you,
Julianne Hough had her appendix removed last Tuesday, so
Edyta Sliwinska will take over as
Cody Linley's coach and partner. We'll see if this new partnership will be any good. Also, with
Cloris Leachman finally out of the competition, the real competition can finally begin! Tonight's performances will feature different matchups as the remaining dancers mix and match into different groups. Who will rise to the top? And who will be in danger of going home? Stay with me all night!
Live! From Hollywood! This is
Dancing with the Stars!
Warren Sapp and
Kym Johnson take the stage first tonight. They have the foxtrot tonight, and it's actually kind of disappointing. Len Goodman is back, and he's wearing a fedora. Huh, and Bruno is wearing a pink, feathery boa. The judges are across the board critical of Warren's lackluster performance. Warren says he not wearing the right size shoes, but has he not heeded Tyra Banks' sound advice and just "model through it"? And the scores: Carrie Ann, Len and Bruno all gives 7s, for a 21 out of 30.
Susan Lucci and
Tony Dovolani seem to have had a difficult time learning the paso doble this week. Susan whines that Tony isn't delivering the correct tone of voice when he gives her suggestions. In their performance tonight, I am in love with every last aspect of their routine except for Susan. The music is one of the best traditional selections I've heard for the paso on
Dancing with the Stars. The costumes and Tony's bare waxed chest are awesome. But Susan, once again, is a snore. It looks like Tony is just flinging her around and she has no spine. The judges rave about her, though, incomprehensibly. I don't get why they love her so much. Anyone care to clear this up for me? And the scores: Carrie Ann gives 8, Len gives 8 and Bruno gives 8, for a 24 out of 30.
Maurice Greene is another celeb who had a tough, tough week. Uh oh, and during the team dance rehearsal on Saturday, he hyper-extended his leg and has been limping around ever since. Anyway, he and
Cheryl Burke have the cha cha cha tonight, he looks pretty good, despite the slight injury. I usually find him on the boring side in his performances, but he's doing well tonight. Carrie Ann gives positive reviews about his perfect mix of form and freedom. Len thinks it's his best dance so far, and Bruno rounds out the trio with more good comments. The scores: Carrie Ann gives 8, Len gives 9 and Bruno gives 8, for a 25 out of 30.
Yay, Cody Linley and Edyta Sliwinska are up next. Now, I'm really curious to see how they'll do because Edyta is like sex personified and Cody is such a young, innocent boy. They're doing the Viennese waltz tonight. Aww, cute! They go to visit Julianne at home. What's up with Cody's shiny red jacket? Woah. I'm not loving Cody's red suit, but this waltz is the most romantic thing ever. Go Cody! And of course, go Edyta. (She's my favorite pro.) Cute, Cody has such a goofy smile at the end of the routine. Len thinks that Cody lacked the lyricism that a waltz requires. Bruno thinks that Cody was clumsy, but Carrie Ann thinks that it was great. And their scores: Carrie Ann gives 8, Len gives 7 and Bruno gives 7, for a 22 out of 30.
Lance Bass and
Lacey Schwimmer are next with the rumba. They will be dancing the rumba barefoot, which must be a first on
Dancing with the Stars. But Lance hurt his toe last week, so he's having a hard time with that. They too have had a bad week of rehearsal. Lacey gets frustrated with his negative, and they have a little tiff, the silent passive-aggressive kind. Lacey looks like she's wearing a burlap sack with a sparkly bra underneath. An interesting look. Regardless of their costuming choices, I think their rumba was really interesting and personal and wonderfully danced. Both Bruno and Carrie Ann love the dance - Carrie Ann thinks that the bare feet risk worked, but Len gets his panties in a bunch for all this "nonsense," like the bare feet and the park bench prop. The scores: Carrie Ann gives 9, Len gives 7 and Bruno gives 9, for a 25 out of 30.
Brooke Burke and
Derek Hough are next. They have the foxtrot tonight. Brooke is still dealing with her foot injury, but their rehearsal footage looks really good. Wow, Brooke looks amazing tonight, and Derek is all dressed up in a tux. She looks really smooth and elegant and really confident, and they end with Derek giving her a kiss on the cheek. I have to give props to them both because it was a terrific routine. The judges are unanimous in their praise for her as well. Their scores: Carrie Ann gives 10, Len gives 10 and Bruno gives 10, for the first perfect 30 out of 30 of the season. Derek does a striptease backstage.
Now for the team competition. Team Cha Cha versus Team Paso Doble. The judges will award one overall score for each team, and that score will be added to everyone's individual score. Team Cha cha is made up of Cody and Edyta, Lance and Lacey, and Susan (team captain) and Tony. Team Paso Doble is made up of Brooke and Derek, Maurice and Cheryl, and Warren (team captain) and Kym.
Team Cha Cha is first. Cody and Edyta are featured first, and they do a really good job. I suppose it's a bit unfair to compare Susan to Edyta, but as soon As Susan and Tony take over the stage, I am suddenly bored. It's like, Susan's legs are so toothpick thin that it looks like she doesn't have the strength to take big steps or something. Lance and Lacey's featured choreography is, of course, the flashiest of the three couples. Len finally gives Lance and Lacey their due by saying that they saved the solos. Carrie Ann says that the unison was "terrible" and "brutal to watch." Their scores: Carrie Ann gives 6, Len gives 7 and Bruno gives 7, for a 20 out of 30.
Now it's Team Paso Doble's turn to go. It's the athletes plus the supermodel. Huh, I wouldn't have picked this particular song to go with a paso doble, but whatever. Warren and Kym start out the solos and they are amazing. Maurice is also good, but Brooke and Derek steal the show with like 20 spins in a row. It's hard to tell withe the jumpy camera work, but I think this team's unison work was better than the previous team's. The audience gives them a standing ovation. Bruno raves and raves something incomprehensible but positive. Carrie Ann loved the routine as well. Len agrees, but he points out that it's much easier to stay in unison in a marching-type dance than it is in a syncopated dance like the cha cha cha. Their scores: Carrie Ann gives 10, Len gives 9 and Bruno gives 10, for a 29 out of 30.
Don't forget, because of the election coverage tomorrow, this week's
Dancing with the Stars results show is postponed until Wednesday at 8pm. Also, next on
Dancing with the Stars, the five surviving couples will have to perform two individual dances each. Don't miss it.
