Dancing with the Stars 7: Top 12 Performance Rankings
Dancing with the Stars 7: Top 12 Performance Rankings
Dancing with the Stars's three-night premiere event continued tonight with the second round of performances.  For the first time in Dancing with the Stars history, all 13 teams had to prepare two different routines for the first week, but only 12 teams got the chance to perform their second dance tonight.

Jeffrey Ross and Edyta Sliwinska received the lowest combined total of judges' scores and audience votes from last night.  They found out at the end of night that they would go no further in the competition.

Read on to see how the other 12 couples fared tonight.

Brooke Burke and Derek Hough – 26

Quickstep, scores: 9+8+9=26. I admit that I completely underestimated Brooke's dance potential before the season started. I didn't think that she necessarily deserved to get the highest score last night, but tonight, she and Derek really blew me away with an energetic, clean and entertaining quickstep.

Cody Linley and Julianne Hough – 23

Quickstep, scores: 8+7+8=23. The youngest team in the competition, Cody and Julianne have energy to spare. And good thing, too, because the quickstep is a fast, fast dance. Cody brought a maturity to his performance tonight, and the judges rewarded them with high scores.

Toni Braxton and Alec Mazo – 23

Quickstep, scores: 8+7+8=23. In rehearsal, Toni looked like she was having a hard time with the quickstep because of her heart condition, but you couldn't really tell during their performance tonight. I thought she wasn't quite as strong as she was with the cha cha last night, but the judges only had good things to say about tonight's performance.

Susan Lucci and Tony Dovolani – 22

Quickstep, scores: 7+7+8=22. After last night's mediocre cha cha, Len predicted that Susan would excel more in the ballroom styles, and he was proven right tonight. Susan and Tony danced a strong quickstep tonight, although, Susan could do with more dynamic energy.

Warren Sapp and Kym Johnson – 22

Quickstep, scores: 7+7+8=22. Warren Sapp is a 300-pound man, but he moves as easily as someone half his weight. He and Kym brought a high level of energy and entertainment to their dance, but the judges wished for cleaner footwork.

Lance Bass and Lacey Schwimmer – 21

Quickstep, scores: 7+6+8=21. Lance and Lacey's quickstep was extremely entertaining tonight. They moved across the floor very well and very smoothly, but as the judges noted, Lance has got to work on his posture a bit more. The judges also would have preferred more traditional choreography, so Lacey's got her work cut out for her as well.

Maurice Greene and Cheryl Burke – 21

Mambo, scores: 7+7+7=21. Maurice and Cheryl improved overall from their performance last night, but they've still got a lot of room for improvement. They had a really funky, energetic mambo tonight that even had Maurice doing the worm. Everyone found the routine fun and entertaining, except for grumpy ol' Len, who doesn't ever want to see "that free Willy" step again, referring to the worm.

Misty May-Treanor and Maksim Chmerkovskiy – 21

Mambo, scores: 7+7+7=21. Misty is one strong competitor. She attacked the mambo tonight, rocking a couple of solo passes, proving that she is more suited to Latin dances. She worked her hips well, but the judges advised her to work on her arms and shoulders.

Rocco DiSpirito and Karina Smirnoff – 21

Mambo, scores: 7+7+7=21. Apparently, Rocco has hips of fury. Rocco was one of most improved dancers from last night to tonight, gaining a full seven points more tonight than he earned last night. Their performance is even more impressive considering that Karina is still nursing an injured ankle. Kudos to both of these competitors.

Ted McGinley and Inna Brayer – 19

Mambo, scores: 6+6+7=19. Ted McGinley dubbed himself Mambo McGinley, but tonight, he was a bit too stiff. He's got to learn how to be a little less awkward, a little more musical, if he wants to capture the audience's hearts and continue on in the competition.

Kim Kardashian and Mark Ballas – 18

Mambo, scores: 6+6+6=18. Kim felt a lot of pressure dancing the mambo tonight because she thought that everyone had unrealistic expectations that she would naturally be able to shake her prodigious posterior. She and Mark went on to reinforce these expectations by dancing to "Baby Got Back," but unfortunately, she just didn't bring it tonight.

Cloris Leachman and Corky Ballas – 16

Mambo, scores: 6+5+5=16. Cloris Leachman, bless her soul, is a terrible, terrible dancer. If Dancing with the Stars is a purely technique-based competition, she should not make it past this week. However, she is incredibly funny and insanely irreverent, and therefore, enormously entertaining. Her and Corky's mambo was filled to the brim with crotch-grabbing, ass-slapping and coconut-shaking that is just so, so wrong that it's right.
