For the first time this season of
Dancing with the Stars, the teams were required to learn and perform two different routines in two different styles, and lots of dramatic events went down.
The big news from last night's
Dancing with the Stars performance show was that Latin heartthrob
Cristian de la Fuente was sent to the emergency room when he suffered what he thought was a pulled muscle. To add insult to injury, the judges awarded him with the lowest scores of the evening, leaving him more dependent than ever on audience favor.
In other shakeups, Olympic figure skater
Kristi Yamaguchi ended the evening in second place! It was
Jason Taylor who took top honors last night.
Cristian shared with Tom and the
Dancing with the Stars audience that he ruptured a tendon in his arm, and it will require surgery to repair. However, the doctor told him that he will be able to delay the surgery if he continues on in the competition.
Here were the standings after last night's performances:
Jason Taylor and
Edyta Sliwinska - 55
Kristi Yamaguchi and
Mark Ballas - 54
Marissa Jaret Winokur and
Tony Dovolani - 52
Mario and
Karina Smirnoff - 51
Shannon Elizabeth and
Derek Hough - 51
Cristian de la Fuente and
Cheryl Burke - 46
The teams who are definitely going to be returning for another week, in the order in which they were announced, are Kristi and Mark, Mario and Karina, Cristian and Cheryl, and Jason and Edyta.
This means that Marissa and Tony, and Shannon and Derek were in the bottom two. Shannon and Derek unfortunately did not receive enough audience votes to overtake Marissa, so tonight was their final night on
Dancing with the Stars.
And the other stuff. Sadly, there were no young tykes from the Ballroom Kids competition. But that's okay because Def Leppard performed. Not once, but twice! First, they sang their classic anthem, "Pour Some Sugar on Me." Then, they performed "Nine Lives" off their latest album, Songs From the Sparkle Lounge.
Joining Def Leppard with some other non-elimination-related filler were two segments from DanceCenter, the SportsCenter spoof hosted by Kenny Mayne, Len Goodman and Jerry Rice. Highlights included Jerry Rice winking and saying, "Kristi Yama-hoochie" and Jason Taylor farting.
