So, yes, I remember writing about A.J. Buckley when I began writing stuff on
CSI: NY. I guess it's because he's just one of my favorites on the show. I find Adam slightly squeezable, in the same way you find Sid the complete opposite. But I digress.
So it's quite fun hearing that he's got a lot of thanking to give the folks at
CSI: NY. Of course, you can say it's his biggest break so far, being the lab rat who's pretty good but bumbling in his attempts to, I dunno, feel accepted or something. Talking to The Calgary Herald while attending the Calgary Stampede--some event in Canada with cowboy stuff promoting the area's tourist spots--he revealed that he was in a pretty hard spot before the show came along.
"When I booked
CSI: NY, I had literally $32 to my name," he said. "I was couch surfing and had my suitcase in the back of my car."
At this point let me introduce you to his friend, actor Johnny Hawkes, who also attended the Stampede with him. The two met in Los Angeles, when both were struggling actors, and were both part of the so-called "Canadian coalition", which is exactly that. Oh, and no relation to Sheldon Hawkes. Another favorite on the show. But I digress again.
"I called Johnny and said, 'Do you want me to wash you car for $5?'" Buckley continued.
"I was like, 'A.J., I'd love that,'" Hawkes continued. "'But I don't have the $5. I need to go buy a sandwich. But I'll share the sandwich with you."
And now, Buckley's Adam on
CSI: NY, not to mention that hit role on
Supernatural.
"
CSI is such a great steady gig to have," he said. "It's such a giant franchise. I get to travel all over the world. But artistically you are always looking for something that's going to push and challenge you as an actor--not that
CSI doesn't. I like the dark dramatic stuff that I've been fortunate enough to play; things I've been able to sink my teeth into."
He's returning to the set next Monday, and he claims he still doesn't know what'll happen to his character. No answers for that cliffhanger ending, then.
