Megalyn EchikunwokeThe CBS network announced that actress Megalyn Echikunwoke will be joining the cast of CSI: Miami as the new medical examiner.  Earlier, it was announced that the show was looking for someone to fill in the void left by Khandi Alexander.  Echikunwoke has been cast, and she will be part of the Miami-Dade Police Department this fall.

Megalyn Echikunwoke will play a recurring character who immediately makes a good impression on Lt. Horatio Cane and his CSI team.  It was reported that CBS was looking for someone to fill in the shoes for the young but wise character, Dr. Lauren Price, and it is likely but not been completely confirmed that Echikunwoke will be taking on that role.

She is also expected to partially stand in for the medical examiner Dr. Alexx Woods, played by Khandi Alexander since 2002.  It has been reported that Alexander will still be making guest appearances on the show despite her departure.

Echikunwoke is known for her roles on other crime dramas.  She portrayed Nicole Palmer during the first season of the drama series 24, and is also recognized for her role in another CBS series, The 4400.  She is a regular cast member in that sci-fi show, playing the adult version of the mysterious Isabelle Tyler since its third season. Echikunwoke left the show in 2007, and The 4400 was subsequently cancelled.  After a number of other soap opera projects, she signed up to replace Khandi Alexander on CSI: Miami.

The award-winining drama CSI: Miami will be back for its seventh season this fall, and will be airing on September 22, 2008.  It will be occupying the 10pm slot on Mondays, returning with the stars of the show, David Caruso, Emily Procter and Jonathan Togo.
