chuckFor 13 episodes, viewers have come to know Chuck Bartowski as the “average computer-whiz-next-door” whose brain is embedded with the only remaining copy of the world's greatest spy secrets on television series Chuck.  Soon, however, fans will get to know the characters of the NBC action sitcom in a different light.  According to TV Guide, the producers behind the show have decided to come up with a six-issue comic series that is independent from the storylines of the show.

"Since we can do absolutely anything in a comic book, we're going to take Chuck Bartowski out of the confines of the Buy More store and put him on crazy, globe-trotting spy adventures a la James Bond,” co-writer Peter Johnson, who also wrote the TV-to-comic adaptation Supernatural: Rising Son, told TV Guide.

The Chuck comic book, which is from DC Comics imprint WildStorm, is scheduled for release on June 11.  The plot follows Chuck (Zachary Levi) at the wicked high-tech Supermax prison in Tokyo where he'll cross paths with all the villains he has helped put away in the TV series.

"We'll also send him to Rio and Moscow.  It's what would happen if Chuck was a $300 million Hollywood blockbuster," Johnson added.

Since the comic book has an independent storyline, it will allow the writers to mess around with time and play with some flash-forward elements.

"The comic will go back and explore Chuck and Morgan as kids," Johnson said.  "We'll see what Chuck and Bryce were like in college.  We'll do Bryce and Sarah spy stories.  [The series will also feature] a speculative, alternate universe kind of future in which Chuck and Sarah are married."

Of course, the no-rules approach will be done tastefully.  Each issue will reportedly explore on the Chuck mythos with a short backup story, one of which will be written by the series star Zachary Levi.
