American actor Woody Harrelson was born on July 23, 1961 in Midland, Texas. He won an Emmy Award for his performance for the classic sitcom Cheers, and he was nominated for the 1996 Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for starring in the film The People vs. Larry Flynt. Harrelson attended the Hanover College in Indiana, becoming a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater Arts and English. He has appeared in a number of other films such as Money Train, White Men Can't Jump, Wag the Dog, and Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killers.

Woodrow “Woody” Boyd is portrayed by Woody Harrelson on the classic television sitcom Cheers. Somewhat dim-witted yet still likeable, he was Coach Pantusso's pen pal for a time before coming to the Cheers bar himself and taking over the assistant bartender position. A native of Hanover in Indiana, he and his childhood sweetheart used to suffer from obesity, though it was later on revealed that they overate around each other due to strong sexual tension. He eventually marries the rich Kelly Gaines, and due to one of Frasier's experiments going wrong, Woody also winds up elected to the Boston City Council.
