'Californication' Season 5 Preview Guide: The Hank & Karen Saga Continues
Last season on Californication, the situation with Mia (Madeline Zima) became public knowledge and Hank (David Duchovny) was faced with charges of statutory rape. He was forced to endure a long and embarrassing court case that ultimately resulted in a guilty verdict. The finale closed in a fog, pointing out the confusion between Hank's real life and the movie being created about it. With Karen (Natascha McElhone) and Becca (Madeleine Martin) off on a road trip, he was left alone, free to miss them and settle comfortably into his usual habits. Will those habits continue into Californication season 5?

The endless back-and-forth between Hank and Karen will definitely be on the rise again this season. Season 4 finished off on a clear note that both Karen and Becca were missing Hank, so it is only a matter of time before television's most compelling relationship kicks off again on Californication season 5. I'm sure Karen will try to hold on to her place-holding boyfriend, Ben (Michael Ealy), for as long as she can; realistically, however, how much time can she spend resisting the notoriously attractive Hank charm?

As for Hank's best friend and agent Charlie Runkle (Evan Handler), the love of Charlie's life, Marcy (Pamela Adlon), is still testing the Stu (Stephen Tobolowsky) waters, but she is definitely going to run into some kind of trouble trying to stay separated from her Runkle on Californication season 5, especially after he confessed his love for her at Stu's dinner party on last season's finale.

Which Californication Character Are You? >>

Creator and Executive Producer Tom Kapinos is supposedly aiming to take this upcoming season in a different direction than the past four seasons. Californication season 5 is hopefully going to be something of a new chapter for Hank Moody. Maybe he will restrain himself from his bad habits, quit messing around, and put his unparalleled writing talents to use to come up with a new piece that doesn't cost him a conviction.

Uh oh ... am I starting to sound like Karen?

Californication season 5 will premiere on Showtime on Sunday, January 8, at 10:30pm.
