Unfortunately, the Walkers won't be marching into the small screen tonight on ABC.  Instead of the usual hour of Brothers & Sisters, audiences will get to witness the 2008 American Music Awards.  Despite that, the show remains up and running, thanks to the writers of the series.  Beth Schwartz and Brian Studler, who were responsible for last week's “Going Once…Going Twice” episode, sat down for an interview and discussed the recent events on the hit show.

Asked about their experiences writing episodes, Schwartz said: “It was actually very easy. I've never written with a writing partner before, so I didn't really know how it worked.  Brian would write his scenes, and I would write my scenes.  And then we would both swap and give each other little notes, and that was it.”

Brian Studler added, “I felt it was very good-- we were very supportive of each other.”  Though both assistants, they enjoyed the writing process.  Being with everyone on the set was a wonderful part of their work.

“I really thought it was great,” Studler said.  Even though he hadn't been on the set as often as his co-writer, Beth Schwartz, he knew it was a noteworthy moment.  “I literally, at that point, never went down there only because I was always chained to my assistant desk.  It was just really, really great to be able to go down there.  I was able to meet so much of the crew.  The actors were super cool and really supportive.”

Of course, the job doesn't come without stress.  According to Brian, one of the most nerve-racking parts of the whole experience was the table read.  “Some of the actors are seeing it for the first time.  And you have to sit there and hear it for the first time.  I literally wanted to get sick at the table read.”  Beth adds, “I think I blacked out.  I don't even remember.”

Schwartz and Studler also identified their favorite Walker family members to write for.  Beth said she prefers Sarah's (Rachael Griffiths) character because “[s]he's funny.  It's fun writing the sister scenes.”  For Brian, it's Kevin (Matthew Rhys) and Scotty (Luke Macfarlane).

Upon writing “Going Once…Going Twice,” Brian Studler became a Brothers & Sisters staff writer while Beth Schwartz continued her series work with Josh Reims.  Don't miss a new Brothers & Sisters as they deal with “Unfinished Business” next week, November 30 at 10pm on ABC.
