Technically speaking, tonight's edition of
Bones is the third original, post-strike episode to air since
Bones returned April 14. However, due to special extenuating circumstances, it's turned out more like the fourth, since “The Player Under Pressure,” which aired April 21, was actually an episode from the second season that was yanked from its original schedule in light of the Virginia Tech massacre. As such, it became a quasi-original offering because it was broadcast for the very first time.
Tonight's
Bones entitled “The Verdict in the Story” features the return of veteran star, Ryan O'Neal, back in his role as Temperance Brennan's (
Emily Deschanel) father.

In tonight's installment, Max (O'Neal) finds himself forced to face his past when he is finally put on trial for the alleged murder of FBI Deputy Director Robert Kirby. The Jeffersonian team is split in half as Brennan uses her forensic brilliance to help prove her father innocent, while the rest of the group serve as expert witnesses for the prosecution.
The case is emotionally wrenching for all, especially for Brennan, who must balance her integrity as a respected anthropologist with her devotion to her family, particularly her father. On the opposite side of the courtroom, her colleagues and friends face a similar dilemma, having to stay objective and impartial on the stand, at the risk of dooming Brennan's dad to Death Row.
For Angela (
Michaela Conlin), the situation is much too damning and she refuses to take the witness stand against her best friend's father. The presiding judge, a cranky but skilled man who declares himself the next best thing to God in his court room, sends her behind bars until she agrees to answer the questions directed at her.
Loren Dean also returns as
Bones' brother, Russ Brennan, and
John Francis Daley is likewise back as Dr. Lance Sweets. “The Verdict in the Story” on
Bones airs tonight at 8.
