On the heels of ABC Family announcing that it has canceled freshman drama The Nine Lives of Chloe King
, the network offered some good news today by renewing two shows and announcing plans for four new pilots. The Lying Game
was extended to a full 22-episode first season while the gymnastics drama Make It or Break It
was renewed for a third season. The network has also canceled freshman sitcom State of Georgia

, a drama about twins who trade places while one searches for their biological parents, is currently in its first season and the original 10-episode order will conclude on October 17. The extension adds 12 more episodes, likely to air sometime in 2012.Make It or Break It
has been in a state of limbo since the second season ended May 23, but after almost four months of waiting, the news is great. The heartwarming family drama centers on a group of elite female gymnasts preparing for the 2012 Olympics, and since the London games will air next summer, the renewal could help boost Make It or Break It
's ratings since people will suddenly be very interested in gymnastics again.
However, the show will have to work around one apparent cast issue. Star Josh Bowman, who plays Payson's bisexual boyfriend Max, now stars in ABC's Revenge
, which may cause problems if the show lasts. The show had the same issue in its first season when Emily's love interest in the pilot, Razor (Nico Tortorella) was cast on the CW's The Beautiful Life
and disappeared, only to return once that show was canceled.
These shows join The Secret Life of the American Teenager
, Pretty Little Liars
and Switched at Birth
as the networks crop of strong, teen-based scripted dramas.
In addition, ABC Family announced production on four new shows, two dramas and two comedies.
For dramas, Gilmore Girls
creator Amy Sherman-Palladino is developing Bunheads
about a Vegas showgirl who gets married and moves to her husband's small town where she gets a job at her mother-in-law's dance school. Sherman-Palladino is no stranger to this world as her mother is a dancer and wanted her to pursue it as well. The other drama is Intercept
, about a group of college kids who solve crimes when one invents a high-tech device that intercepts phone calls.
The two comedies include Baby Daddy
about a guy in his 20s who suddenly has to raise a child when his ex-girlfriend leaves a baby girl at his house (if it sounds a bit like Raising Hope
, that's because it is, minus the serial killer aspect). The other comedy is Village People
, about a career-driven woman who adopts a baby and also winds up taking care of the baby's teenage mother.(Image courtesy of ABC Family)
