Big Shots has been put out of its misery. The new series from ABC about four men (
Christopher Titus,
Dylan McDermott,
Michael Vartan and
Joshua Malina) and their lady woes has been pulled from the air by ABC, with three new episodes remaining in the tank. The series received poor reviews out of the gate, and the viewing audience wasn't much kinder.
Big Shots could realistically be described as a
Sex and the City for men, but
Big Shots didn't pop like the HBO comedy, nor even come close. The fact that ABC has decided to pull the three remaining episodes off the air during the writers' strike is a massive indictment of the network's lack of faith in the series. The series, which followed
Grey's Anatomy on Thursday nights, will, for the time being, be replaced by reruns of Grey's spin-off
Private Practice.
Given the reality of the writers' strike, fans of
Big Shots can probably rest easy that the three remaining episodes will find their way on the air at some point. At the very least, a DVD will eventually be released containing every
Big Shots episode. But, please, don't bother. The pilot was a terrible, nauseating hour of television that I will never get back. Only the abomination that was
Viva Laughlin saved
Big Shots from being far and away the worst new series of the season. The lack of quality is even more depressing when you consider the talent involved. For Michael Vartan to go from
Alias to this, for Joshua Malina to go from
West Wing to this and for Dylan McDermott to go from
The Practice to this makes you wonder if their collective agents should immediately be fired.
Big Shots is one of two new ABC dramas to not be picked up for an entire season with
Women's Murder Club.
Dirty Sexy Money, Private Practice and
Pushing Daisies have all been picked up for full seasons.
