Ashton Kutcher Sets 'Beauty and the Geek' Apart from Other Reality Series

Nowadays, it's very challenging to come up with a show that presents a unique concept apart from today's more common reality series such as The Bachelor, Flavor of Love and I Love New York, just to name a few.  But for Ashton Kutcher, actor famous for his dim-witted role on FOX's That ‘70s Show and for his prankster antics on MTV's Punk'd, he has made the distinction by coming up with a reality show that stimulates self-improvement, instead of the typical “quest for love" premise.

Kutcher, along with Jason Goldberg and Nick Santora, came up with Beauty and the Geek, where a group of “beauties” (young women who are sexy) and a bunch of “geeks” (young socially inept men who have relied primarily on intellect) are paired up to compete as couples for a shared $250,000 and other prizes.  The show has been described as “The Ultimate Social Experiment” and continues to thrive in the ratings ever since it premiered in 2005.

“This show has never been a dating show.  The goal of the show is just to become a better person. We don't want people who are just there to be on TV or who are there for the money.  We want people who are there for the experience,” Ashton said.

But Beauty and the Geek hasn't just helped the show's contestants as it has also helped Kutcher, who is married to actress Demi Moore, realize a lot of things when it comes to relationships.

“I think that the biggest thing that I get from the show is that everyone has their insecurities, and nobody feels that they are perfect or great.  No matter how good somebody might look on the outside, they have their insecurities inside.  We're all the same.  We're all wonderfully flawed individuals… We're all beauties and we're all geeks.”

Fans can catch the fifth season of Beauty and the Geek on March 11 8/7c on The CW.
