It's a bird. It's a plane. It's...not Superman. A new hero is coming to Starling City on the CW's Arrow, and while the actor has played the Man of Steel, he'll be taking on a new role this time.

According to TVLine, Brandon Routh has joined the cast of Arrow in a major recurring role for season 3. He will play Ray Palmer, an inventor and the new owner of Queen Consolidated who has big and mysterious plans for the Applied Sciences Division. In DC Comics, Ray Palmer is also known as the superhero the Atom, who has the ability to alter the size of himself and other objects.

Routh played Clark Kent in the 2006 film Superman Returns. On TV, he played a big role on NBC's Chuck and, most recently, had a recurring role on FOX's Enlisted.

Palmer is the latest addition to Arrow's third season. Devon Aoki and Karl Yune will play a married couple who train and mentor Oliver Queen in his Hong Kong flashbacks while Peter Stormare will played the new Count Vertigo in season 3's first episode.

Arrow season 3 premieres Wednesday, October 8 at 8pm on the CW.
