Once a
Top Model’s dream of winning is crushed by Tyra Banks, they all say that they’ll continue pursuing modeling professionally. They talk of acting, of becoming television hosts, and of creating their own fashion lines. Very few find success outside of the CW television series, which has recently been renewed for an 11th season, set to air this fall. A cycle 8 contestant, who had big dreams of pursuing a music career, has actually made it a reality.
Sarah VonderHaar, recently released her solo debut album and talked about her journey towards reaching her goal.
"I've been writing songs since I was 12," Sarah told the Shaumberg Review, a local newspaper in her home state of Illinois. "You know how you get the guitar in a boxed set with a little amp and a book? I learned a few chords and would sing along and play my guitar, really poorly."
Sarah named her album “Are You Listening Now” and the title track was written about her father, who died of a drug overdose. "He started doing drugs when I was about 14 and died when I was 17," she said. "It took me four years to get ready to write that song, and when I finally did, I wrote it in 20 minutes."
Music has not been enough for VonderHaar to make a living quite yet. The former
Top Model contestant still lives with her parents and holds down a job at a local Pizza Hut. Music, however, does not fall into the same category as her day job. "I never consider music a job," she said. "I love creating something from nothing."
VonderHaar held a CD release party at the end of last month in Illinois. Her album is being sold at Best Buy stores, ITunes, as well as through her official website, sarahvonderhaar.com.
Will you check out Sarah's music?
