Last week's
America's Next Top Model had one of those moments that will go down in
Top Model history. It will be something that is replayed on clip show after clip show. A moment that will be referred to by fans as a pinnacle of
Top Model drama. I am, of course, speaking of Celia's attempted
Top Model mutiny at judge's panel.
It's all
Top Model fans are talking about: was Celia in the right or wrong telling Tyra that Tahlia had said she wanted to leave the competition? 355 of you have voted in a BuddyTV poll on that very topic, with 72% of you saying that Celia was "way out of line" for bringing up Tahlia's negative comments at panel. Only 28% of you said that "someone had to" bring up Tahlia's comments to Tyra.
My feelings about Celia's comments to Tyra aren't so cut and dry. On one hand, she should have realized there was no way Tyra was going to completely reverse her decision and go from Tahlia winning that week's photo shoot to kicking her out of the competition. On the other hand, if you've watched any previous cycle of
Top Model, as Celia obviously has, you know that at times Tyra has cared more about wanting to be
America's Next Top Model, than performance. Still, I was personally disappointed in Celia's behavior, just because it's the only thing that she's done all cycle that I haven't loved her for.
So, while Celia should have realized that her point was best saved for another day, when her argument wouldn't fall on deaf ears; you also can't blame her for thinking Tyra would want to know what Tahlia had been saying. I have to admit, Celia's behavior had me singing a Paul Simon song to myself. "Oh Celia, you're breaking my heart. You're shaking my confidence daily." I wouldn't be surprised if Tahlia was singing the same tune.
Of course, Celia isn't the only story that's sprouted from last week's panel...there was also Tyra's reaction. Wow! We haven't seen Tyra get that angry with a girl since
the great Tiffany blow up of Cycle 4. Do you think that Tyra's reaction to Celia was a wee bit over-the-top? Sure she wasn't crying or screaming like the Tiffany fight, but you could tell Tyra was pissed. There's also been talk in the
Top Model fan community that Tyra set up the whole drama, by making sure Tahlia won the photo challenge. It seems a few
America's Next Top Model watchers are having a hard time beliving Tahlia really took the best photo last week. I have to admit to being a little skeptical too, Mr. Jay was heaping the praise on London during the shoot, but somehow she got a crummy photo. Do you think there was a
Top Model conspiracy at play last week?
Since Celia is one of my absolute favorites this cycle, I hope that her attempted mutiny won't affect her future on
Top Model. However, I have a sinking feeling that Celia has made her road to being
America's Next Top Model much more difficult, if not impossible.
