Last week on Cycle 11 of America's Next Top Model,
we had the relatively surprising elimination of Lauren Brie. While Lauren Brie hadn't been the most dynamic girl away from the photo shoots, she had taken some of the most convincingly high-fashion shots that we have seen on America's Next Top Model
But, once again, let's recall that Tyra Banks
has warned us that just because this show has lumbered along for eleven cycles doesn't mean that we can predict what is going to happen week to week. Nevertheless, let's try.
McKey and Marjorie seem to be the two girls who – at this point in the competition – can turn out solid shots. Marjorie might be a nervous gal, but she seems to have a bit more modeling savvy than she is letting on. She was the girl picked to step on Sheena's dress in Sheena's shot, and she's modeling more with that one foot that's pictured than some girls have demonstrated all cycle. Now, it's completely possible that she's just a total natural, but I think she maybe has studied the fashion mags a bit more than she would let on. The kind of insecurity she's been demonstrating is sometimes the way a competitive and perfectionist type of person can let out that energy without seeming threatening to the people around her. She can say it's her European sensibility, but I think there's something else going on with our Ms Marjorie.
That said, I guess it's sort of neither here nor there with regard to her performance this week because I think she and McKey could have a bad shot and even get a tough critique from the judges but I don't see either of them going home.
I still like Sheena a lot, even though I've been disappointed by her photos. I would love to see her turn it around, and I have some suspicion that she will be safe again, but she's got to start taking more high-fashion looking photos.
Analeigh and Joslyn are both at risk, I think, if they don't really nail it this week. Both have pleasant and charming personas in front of the judges, both have taken at least a couple photos that weren't total clunkers, but, as Tyra so eloquently said about Clark, they are “a mediocre kind of good. Y'know, she gives a great picture, then she gives a bad picture, which makes it in the middle." (Thanks to genius America's Next Top Model blogger Rich at FourFour for transcribing Tyra's revelatory parsing of the word “mediocre”.)
Elina, in my opinion, hasn't lived up to her potential. But she seems like the kind of girl that Tyra would love to keep around for torturing potential. Mr. Jay, Miss J, the other judges, everyone is so obsessed with seeing her “lose control,” I can't imagine they'll send her home without breaking her down to that point.
I don't know what to think about Samantha. She's really impressed me with some of her photos, but she seems to be sputtering out. She's shown some spunk and creativity, though, so maybe she can turn it around this episode of America's Next Top Model
