This week, the remaining six crews are angling to stay in the competition on
America's Best Dance Crew 2. Last week, Philly boys
Phresh Select were sent home, and
Supreme Soul managed to win over the judges for another week. But did they win over America and get enough votes to stay safe?
Fanny Pak has been the quintessential critical darling but can't seem to consistently get the same love from the public. Which way will the public land this episode?
Super Cr3w had a solid job, but this was the first episode where the “wow” factor wasn't quite as high as it's been in the past. What looks likely to happen this week?
Once again, I think that A.S.I.I.D. is probably sure to be safe. As America's Best Dance Crew 2 judge Shane Sparks noted, the fact that their performance included pointe ballet as well as hip hop and even some swing elements showed how entertaining this crew is. While it's been mentioned, they haven't played up the fact that one of their members is deaf, and seem determined to have their performance and not their personal story win their votes. And as I say every time I mention this crew, they are just so magnetic and dynamic onstage that even when they make mistakes or aren't as clean as the other groups, it doesn't detract as much.
Despite the fact that Super Cr3w's performance wasn't quite as explosive as their previous efforts, it was still a good effort. They put a lot of thought and creativity into their routines, and the audience responds to that. They've also developed a lot of goodwill on the part of the fans, so while they can't coast for long, they can certainly afford one slightly less exciting week.
SoReal Cru once again had some really beautiful moments in their routine, but continued to not quite put themselves over the top. Nevertheless, I think the talent, suavity and sexiness of the crew will keep them safe another week.
I guess this is more of a hope than a prediction, but I have all fingers crossed that people liked Fanny Pak again this week well enough to keep them safe. I agree with the judges that they are the underdog sleeper crew to watch. Every week they push themselves to be even more creative, yet they don't allow the drive for innovation to distract them from making the finished product feel complete and fully-realized. They are a total package. Sure, they're different from the kind of crews we might be used to seeing, but I'm hoping the fans continue to give them a chance to show us what they can do.
So that leaves, in my mind, Boogie Bots and Supreme Soul to land in the bottom two. Both groups are extremely talented. I think it's just that in comparison to the rest of the crews, the overall personality of each of the crews just hasn't yet fully captured the viewers' hearts and therefore won't win the votes. It's unlikely either will make a major technical error – again, they are both very strong – so I think the judges' decision will come down to Supreme Soul's ability to continue to bring a creative routine that feels cohesive versus Boogie Bots once again pushing themselves to live up to their name and recapture that excitement from their “Game Over” routine.
We'll see how the viewers voted tomorrow on America's Best Dance Crew 2.
