I think you can really call this an
American Idol reunion now, the upcoming VH1 Divas concert. We've got three former contestants and a former judge. That counts, right?
Jennifer Hudson is
one of the newest additions to the cable network's concert series; this year's will be on September 17. Also joining the pool are Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge and Cyndi Lauper, who marks her third appearance on the show. (And, to force the
Idol point, she was there last year too, singing in the finale.)
This marks Hudson's latest high-profile appearance, after performances at this year's Super Bowl and Grammys, as well as an
Idol episode and the Michael Jackson memorial. Of course, it's been a momentous past couple of years for her, after the murder of her mother and brother, and just recently, her giving birth to a baby boy.
Hudson joins fellow
Idol alumni Jordin Sparks and Kelly Clarkson, who were previously announced as part of this year's performances. Oh, and yes, former judge Paula Abdul will be hosting the event, which also features performances from Adele, Miley Cyrus and
The X Factor winner Leona Lewis (which, again, forces the
Idol point).
Oh, and presenters for the event will include
The Hills' Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port, Toni Braxton, Kathy Griffin, the cast of the
Fame remake, and
True Blood's Ryan Kwanten, which actually sounds pretty random to me.
An
American Idol reunion, indeed.
