And the 'Idol' Judges' Choices Are ... Terrible
And the 'Idol' Judges' Choices Are ... Terrible

Next week on American Idol: the Top 3 contestants visit their hometowns, and for the first time all season, they won't be held back by a theme that has nothing to do with the kind of artist they hope to become. Yes, it's the week we've all been waiting for: judges' and contestants' choice.

The benefit of this week is two-fold: not only does it silence the judges' constant song choice criticism for at least one song, but Crystal, Casey and Lee will finally be able to show us exactly what they want us to see. This is the week when the all-important "What kind of artist are you?" question will be answered once and for all.

So, what songs did the judges pick for the Top 3? Thanks to, we already know:

Lee Dewyze - "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen
Casey James - "Daughters" by John Mayer
Crystal Bowersox - "Maybe I'm Amazed" by Paul McCartney

Seriously, judges? "Hallelujah?" A song we've already heard this season (multiple times) and long before season 9 had already been overdone on the Idol stage. Sadly, it's indicative of a season of repeats that even though this is the broadest theme of the season, we'll be hearing a song we've already heard.

And don't even get me started on "Maybe I'm Amazed" for Crystal ... a song that, had she chosen it for herself, the judges would have surely criticized her for.  Last and certainly least, Casey James' song may be the best choice out of them all ... and it's a John Mayer tune. 'Nuff said.

Since there won't be an approved songs list and the judges' choices pretty much blow, I want to know:

If you were a judge, what song would you select for the Top 3 to sing?

I'll share my choices with you Monday, but take to the comments and share your dream song choices for Crystal, Casey and Lee.
