The judges are in a good mood, letting a lot of people through. They've been letting way too many people through to Hollywood this season. Andrew Gibson is a dorky guy, who I like, but who is not very good. He's got s funny, low voice.
Austin Sisneros, a 17-year-old with a minor lisp, is the senior class president at his school. He's a leader! He's planning for Homecoming! "Today, I'm auditioning to inspire people." Vomit. I do not like this kid. Maybe that makes me a terrible person, but I don't care. It doesn't help that he sings a Train song (true story: Train got booed off the stage during a free concert at my college). He sings a second song. He calls it an "old soul song." Then, he says it's a song by Raffi. I don't even have a joke here. He sings OK. OK voice. But, really annoying. Randy gives him a yes. I hate you, Randy. Kara gives him a yes. Paula gives him a yes. Simon gives him a yes. I hate all of you, judges.
Ryan mentions High School Musical for the third time or so. It's about three times too many. Montage of people crying after getting rejected. Jarrett Burns has a good voice. We see about four seconds of him. Then we see a lot of terrible auditions.
Taylor Vaifanua is from Samoa, and they moved back to Utah so she could get noticed for her singing. She's tall, nearly six foot, and we talk about how tall she is. She is sixteen as well, looks a lot older. She sings about god, which is kind of a put off, but she's got a really good voice. Kara cryptically says that she saw her in the bathroom practicing, twice. What are the chances? She was good though. She's going to Cali.
Our final contestant of the night Rose Flack. She's a hippie-looking chick. Her father, a hippie, died when she was 13. She currently lives with her best friend and her best friend's family. She's one of those girls who would be really cute if she dropped the hippie act, but she's still likable. She cries about her dad. Two years after dad died, her mom died in a car crash. Her brother's still around, seems like a nice guy. Man, I hope she's good. She has to be. Simon tells her she looks terrific. She sings "I Feel the Earth Move," by Carole King. Doesn't have a typical voice, maybe even a little out of control, but it's got a great tone, and she knows how to sing. Paula says she has the whole package, save the vocals. She's on 17, and she'll get much better. She gets four yeses, and she's going to Hollywood.
And, that is all for tonight. Perhaps my favorite audition episode of the season. Lot of talent. Only 13 people made it through to Hollywood from SLC, but it sure seemed like more.
