If this really is the case, it's going to be a very weird week on
American Idol next week.
There's no official word, but
the folks over at AINow tweeted that the Top 11 contestants will tackle what they call a "Teen Idols-themed week".
Now, yes, that is vague, but considering who gets a lot of airplay on Top 40 radio stations at the moment, it's pretty easy to guess who they'll be singing: Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Justin Bieber...
I've got no problem with the theme, really (unless someone sings Bieber, which is equivalent to me coughing up blood). I'm more thinking about what this reported theme might suggest. Unless the older contestants can find a way to take these generally vapid songs (admit it) and spin it in a direction that will appeal to older people as well as the tweens, I think this is a way to give the spotlight to three people: Katie Stevens, Aaron Kelly and Tim Urban.
I mean, Katie's been pimped from day one, from the back story to the incessant clips of her crying with whoever about whatever. It gets very obvious now, innit?
Well, again, there's no official word, but we'll update you on what happens. I do believe we'll hear about the theme later this morning at the earliest, especially since
Idol's making a habit out of posting the song selection list on iTunes.
