A few pieces of news in the world of
American Idol today. Nothing monumental, though one of the pieces of “gossip” is pretty funny. But, we'll get to that in a little bit. First, the news that every
American Idol fan has been waiting for – Idol has released the list of the Top 20 Finalists for this season's American Idol song writing contest! Oh, I forgot – nobody was waiting for this news. Nonetheless, if you want to listen to the twenty songs vying for inclusion in the Idol finale this season, click on
this link. Part of me really likes the idea of the whole song writing contest – it's kind of a cool way to find a single for the Idol winner. Unfortunately, those songs are never any good. Also, I find it a bit weird that the Idol winner's first single wasn't written specifically for him or her. Some songs just don't work for certain people. However, this year it should all be fine– the song writing contest always produces a big, cheesy ballad, which is exactly the type of song that future Idol winner
David Archuleta performs well.

David Cook has an older brother, named Adam, who is suffering from brain cancer. Adam, 36 years old, is currently undergoing a second round of chemotherapy to combat the cancer, which has spread to his spine. Adam, despite not being allowed by his doctors to take a commercial airline flight, will be in Los Angeles this week to see his little brother perform on the Idol stage. His family and friends are chartering a special flight for Adam to take from Indiana out to California. He will be in the audience, though it's unclear whether FOX will feature him or show him during the broadcast. If he is shown during this week's episodes, it could either be uplifting or depressing. Probably a little of both.
And, now for my favorite piece of gossip of the day. A hose songs are never any good. Also, I find it a bit weird that the Idol winner's first single wasn't writ on line showing a shirtless
Jason Castro exhaling what some believe to be marijuana smoke. The picture could be doctored (it looks real to me), and he could be exhaling any kind of smoke (cigarette, cigar, hookah), but a lot of people seem to believe that Castro, in said picture, is puffing the magic dragon, if you will. I tend to believe them. Why? Well, have you been watching American Idol this season? Castro looks and acts like a dude who dabbles in weed. Perhaps this will make you think less of Castro (it shouldn't), but I'm only surprised that some such picture didn't surface sooner. Maybe if he was shown in an opium den or with his lips nestled around a crack pipe this would be a major story, but nothing will come of this.
Does Jason Castro smoke weed?
