Reality dating shows have spurned many hearts over the years, so two contestants of
A Double Shot at Love took their chance to speak up about it. Failing to win the affections of the Ikki Twins on the MTV reality show, 23-year-old
Elise Young and 25-year-old
James Shea instead opened up about their experiences on the series.
Discouraged by her time on the show, Elise noted how she felt the Ikkis were more interested in the male contestants rather than the female. “It seemed like they had more fun with the guys,” she said. “They reacted naturally to them. I don't know if they were scared when it came to the girls. It seemed as though they kind of had a more of a natural situation with the guys.”
However, James didn't share the same sentiment. He was booted off the second episode because, according to him, he was too conservative for the Ikkis. “The main reason I got thrown off the show was the subject of gay marriage,” he explained.
“I believe in traditional values. I'm opposed to gay marriage. I don't think it's something that should be legal for a variety of reasons. I guess I could have lied in an attempt to win the game but I tried to be honest and I was honest.”
Both of the ex-contestants were recruited while they were at the Back Bay club, Saint. Back then, they were approached to audition for
A Double Shot at Love and succeeded, unaware of how early they'd leave the show.
“I just did the interview in a hotel room,” Elise said. “I gave a lot of energy and told them about my life. They seemed to like it.”
James was a different matter: “We were there, we saw people with cameras. Everyone was like, ‘You should do it.' I'm not an actor or a model or an aspiring anything. I was simply a drunk guy in a bar.”
James was rather candid about
A Double Shot at Love. “The whole experience was pretty crazy. Everyone was there to have a good time,” he said. “There was lots of nudity, late at night.”
Elise might have seen more of it though, as she was eliminated in episode 3. She noted that one of the worst times on the show was getting ready for it in the morning. “The fact that there are 15 of us and we only had one shower,” she admitted. “They would be like, ‘OK, you have two hours until elimination.' We would all just end up showering together. You had no choice.”
Fortunately for her, she no longer has to deal with that little problem. But there are still others who remain in the house with the Ikkis. See how they fare on new episodes of
A Double Shot at Love, airing at 10pm every Tuesday on MTV.
