90210, a week and a half away. I have friends who cannot stop talking about this. If you're in your mid-twenties, you know what I'm talking about. I have about four or five friends who have seen every episode of the original
Beverly Hills 90210 multiple times. One of my roommate's literally DVR's two episodes of
Beverly Hills 90210 every day from SoapNet. This roommate is not a man, in case you were wondering. The excitement is high, and if The CW can somehow tap into the nostalgia felt by so many fans and produce a halfway decent show, I'm thinking that
90210 could become a pretty big hit. It wouldn't be an overstatement to say that much of The CW's future as a network lies on how successful
90210 becomes. This being the case,
90210 needs to pull out all the stops. One way – bring
Luke Perry back as Dylan McKay. The rumors have been flying fast over the past twenty-four hours over Perry's potential return, and reports have been conflicting.
Earlier today, Zap2It reported that Kelly Taylor, who will be on the new
90210, will have a 4-year old son when the show picks up. Zap2It's source is telling them that the baby's daddy will be Dylan McKay. If this is indeed the case, Luke Perry's return is wide open. It's a built-in storyline, and one that the writer's, if true, were clever to throw in there. This set off a number of articles trumpeting the possible return of Luke Perry to
90210. The studio has countered saying that Luke will not be on the show.
Just a couple hours ago, Luke Perry's representative responded to the stories, saying “This story is not true. Luke is not appearing on the show.” Additionally, Luke Perry himself said, “I can't re-imagine it currently. It's just not something that I've thought about to be quite honest, I don't see it happening."
So, there you have it. Maybe they're trying to keep his return a secret, hence the vehement denials. It's not like Luke Perry's career is blowing up right now. The most likely scenario is that Perry, along with someone like Jason Priestly, is waiting to see if
90210 is a hit. If the series is an absolute train wreck, then Perry will certainly stay away. If the series is a runaway hit, then a Luke Perry return becomes more likely.
90210 airs its two-hour premiere on Tuesday, September 2.
Will Luke Perry, at any time, return to 90210?
