Network: CW
Premiere: Tuesday, September 2, 8pm
Cast: Shenae Grimes, Tristan Wilde, AnnaLynne McCord, Dustin Milligan, Jessica Stroup, Michael Steger
Premise: 90210, a spinoff of the 90s hit
Beverly Hills 90210, follows a new crop of young, beautiful, and rich students at West Beverly High.
Instead of Brenda and Brandon Walsh, we have Annie (Shenae Grimes) and Dixon (Tristan Wilds) Wilson. On the season premiere of
90210, the Dixon siblings will begin their first day of high school in Beverly Hills, a far cry from their midwest upbringing. The show won't just focus on them, though. In true
Beverly Hills 90210 style, we'll get to know the Dixon parents, Harry and Debbie, too. The family has uprooted and moved to California to keep on eye on Harry's mother, Tabitha, played by Jessica Walter. Young
90210 fans may not have seen Walter's stellar performance on
Arrested Development a few years back, but her involvement in the show is one of the things I am most looking forward to.
Of course, there's also the rumors of several original
90210 cast members returning to the series this fall for various guest appearances. One former cast member, though, will plant her roots firmly at West Beverly High. Jennie Garth will reprise her role as Kelly Taylor, who is now a guidance counselor at the school. She's come a long way since going to rehab, getting shot, and being tricked into joining a cult. Ah, the good old days. Also returning is Shannen Doherty, as Brenda Walsh, which should be interesting since her original departure had much to do with her rivalry with Garth. When Tori Spelling found out how much Garth and Doherty would be making, she pulled out of the show but how many people will really miss Donna Martin? I'm just excited that Nat is still running the Peach Pit - how old is that guy?
It looks like there will be drama both on and off the set, which is just another reason to watch
90210. The show should appeal to young fans, who watch
Gossip Girl and
One Tree Hill. Of course, anyone around my age who watched the original will have to tune in to draw comparisons and check in on our favorite residents of Beverly Hills.
90210 is one of the must see shows this fall and is at least worth checking out when it premieres in a few weeks.
