30 Rock is no stranger to landing huge political figures for cameo
appearances. Former Vice President Al Gore has stopped by multiple
times, but now the Emmy-winning show is crossing the political aisle
with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
Tina Fey told NPR today that Rice will be making an appearance on
30 Rock later this season. The cameo will mark Rice's first scripted television appearance.
It also fits perfectly with the show, as
30 Rock made reference to Rice as Jack's former girlfriend back in the first season. In "The Break-Up," Jack made numerous not-so-veiled references to his girlfriend, an African-American with a major role in the Bush administration.
Rice must be a good sport about it, agreeing to go on the show, since this clip between Jack and Liz's former boyfriend Dennis reveals that her sexual relationship with Jack was "filthy."
Given the show's generally liberal politics and the fact that the announcement was made on NPR, I'm not sure if Rice's appearance will be enough to attract conservatives to the low-rated comedy, but you still have to admire
30 Rock for thinking outside-the-box when it comes to their famous guest stars.
30 Rock previously landed Oprah Winfrey as a guest star, so now if Tina Fey can just convince Michelle Obama to make an appearance, the show can hit the trifecta of the world's three most powerful African-American women.
Next week the show celebrates its 100th episode! Learn about the Facebook event:
