Born on April 24, 1977 in Los Angeles, California, Eric Balfour is part-Russian, part-French and part-Native American. He attended high school in Burbank, California, and began acting when he was 15 years old. He was a cast member of the Disney Channel's Kids Incorporated, where he and the rest of the cast earned a 1993 Young Artist award nomination and a 1994 Young Artist Award for Outstanding Youth Ensemble in a Cable of Off Primetime Series. During the early 1990's, appeared in a variety of television shows, including Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, Boy Meets World and Step by Step.

In 1997, he was cast in the role of Jesse McNally in the small screen adaptation of Buffy, The Vampire Slayer and followed that with appearances on more hit series, such as Dawson's Creek, The West Wing, Nash Bridges, Chicago Hope, The Chronicle, NYPD Blue, Six Feet Under, Conviction and The OC.

Balfour has also had a succesful film career, having acted in such blockbuster hits as In Her Shoes, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Second Hand Lions, America's Sweethearts, What Women Want, Clueless and Fearless. Balfour was also in the sexually-explicit film adaptation of Tamara Berger's Lie With Me. The film was shown in the 2005 Toronto International Film Festival.
 
Balfour also starred on the Fox Network's television series, 24. The role has reunited him with his former Veritas: The Quest co-star, Carlo Rota. He appeared in the first and sixth seasons before leaving at his own request. He resides in Los Angeles, California, and as of 2007, has performed with two bands, the first being Blessed With Soul (alongside actress Brittany Murphy) and the current being Fredalba. Among Balfour's other interests are surfing and snowboarding. As a child, he was allergic to cats and dogs, but is now only allergic to cats. In April 25, 2005, Balfour got engaged to actress Moon Bloodgood, and is currently the spokesmodel for Valentino V.
