If we all agree that
24 and
Jack Bauer need to get the hell out of Los Angeles and CTU (which I think we do), the next question has to be, “Where, then, should they go?” Speculation runs rampant among 24 fans and there are endless theories and guesses as to where Jack Bauer will be thwarting terrorists come next January. The recently completed season 6 killed the format of 24 as we know it (or, it better have) and the next move taken by the executive producers will be the most important decision they've made in a long time. Where do they take Jack Bauer?
China?
The finale of season five perfectly set up a sixth season set entirely in China, but either that was vetoed by the producers or was never really an option for 24. It made sense for season six (Jack escaping from the Chinese, Jack getting rescued, etc.), but I'm not sure how much it works for next season. He could certainly get captured again. The logistics might be tough in terms of filming the episodes; obviously, they wouldn't film in China. Regardless of the difficulties, this is my hopeful pick for the setting of next season.
New York?
An east coast, New York setting would be a cop out. When producers say they're going to switch it up, viewers have to expect more than a simple exchanging of coasts. New York and Washington DC would be easy, they would represent a change of scenery for Jack, but the format and plot lines wouldn't have to be altered much. Let's hope the producers get more creative than this.
South American jungle?
Think about it. Jack Bauer and a team of bad asses are shipped to jungles of Colombia to stop a drug czar (or something). How fun would that be? One of my favorite parts of any season was on day 3 when Jack went down to Mexico. We haven't seen much of Jack in non-LA locations. What better place than the jungle (as long as monkey torture isn't involved)?
Those are the three destinations that seem most likely to me. What do you think? Where should the producers take Jack and 24 next season?
