We all know the seventh season of
24 is currently on indefinite hiatus while the WGA writers' strike is on going. However, things are looking up in regards to those negotiations, and it looks like the writers and producers could have a deal ironed out by Christmas. Whether or not this will give the
24 production team enough time to get season 7 ready for a Winter/Spring 2008 run is still unknown. That doesn't mean we can't speculate away. The newest area of interest comes from IMDb, where we see a familiar name included in the cast list for season 7's first episode: Alberta Watson. Watson played Head of CTU Erin Driscoll on season four.
It must be noted that IMDb tends to give its fair share of misinformation (Can you blame them, though? The sheer quantity of info present on their site is astonishing). So, Erin Driscoll. The last time we saw Driscoll was in season four. She was sent home after collapsing, unable to perform her duties. This was understandable, because her schizophrenic daughter had just committed suicide. Driscoll was a thorn in Jack Bauer's side during her entire run on
24. Is it possible she'll turn up briefly in Washington DC at the beginning of season 7? It makes sense. Remember, the season opens with Jack facing a congressional hearing. Erin Driscoll could easily testify against him or, if she's a changed woman, for him. But, she was a firsthand witness of what Jack was capable of at CTU, and would definitely be called upon to testify before congress.
One thing that might lead one to believe that this is false information from IMDb is the circumstances in which Watson left
24. She was supposedly penciled in to be a regular throughout the entirety of season 4 of
24, but she asked producers to take her off the show due to the hectic schedule. Now, I'm not positive this is true, and I can't find any real sources, but it's a possibility. Would the
24 team bring her back after she voluntarily asked to leave? I'd like to say that we'll see soon, but since we have no idea when the seventh season premiere will air, I can't.
