24’s sensation has prompted avid fans to ponder about turning the 24-hour action thriller into a two-hour plot. In turn, the people behind the Emmy and Golden Globe-award winning series have settled with the idea of showcasing its hit series on the silver screen. Despite the anticipation of its solid fan base, not to mention its previous press releases over the confirmed film, 24: The Movie is still currently on hold.

Kiefer Sutherland, actor who plays Jack Bauer, the lead character on 24, has confirmed last May that 24: The Movie is already in progress, and that the series’ creators have already started working on the script, announcing that the shooting of the film will begin on May 30, 2007 and is expected to be released between seasons 7 and 8 in the summer of 2008.

In reality, the plans for the film are presently on hold, despite the completion of the script. According to 24’s executive producer Evan Katz, “The script has been written but it's on hold until the show comes off air.”

For avid supporters of 24, this may be either good news or bad news. The good news is hearing that there is indeed a 24 movie. The bad news, aside from the obvious prolonged release, is the fact that the script has already been written. Known for its erratic and impulsive story lines, 24 has noticeably killed off numerous characters and has unpredictably changed courses more often than not. In line with this, many speculate that the movie script, which has already been written and completed, will be out of date and insignificant by the time the series culminates. Others also contemplate on the possibility of the movie focusing on a time period that has already been finished seasons of the series, which might be disappointing to fans.
