NBC's 20 Best Must See TV Comedies

In the summer of 1993, NBC was facing a change on the comedy front with the loss of hit shows Cheers and A Different World and the end of The Cosby Show the year before that. So a new branding effort was conceived and “Must See TV” was born. The term was first applied to the Fall 1993 two-hour Thursday night comedy block of Mad About You, Wings, Seinfeld and Frasier and since then it has been home to more than 40 comedies of all kinds. In Fall 2006 NBC changed its marketing to “Comedy Night Done Right” (due to the fact that it no longer pulled in the huge ratings of the ‘80s and ‘90s), but it will always be Must See TV to me. Here are my picks for the 20 best and most important shows from that long tradition of excellence.
