Samantha Who: Preview of Episode 2.14, "The Rock Star"

June 25, 2009

As canceled Samantha Who? returns tonight with "The Rock Star," Sam (Christina Applegate) alienates her best friends Andrea (Jennifer Esposito) and Dena (Melissa McCarthy) after she begins dating a rock superstar (Duran Duran's John Taylor).  But who can blame her? He had been her idol while growing up although she has absolutely no recollection of her former feelings about him.  Eventually, she discovers that she might have bitten more than she can chew as the rock star turns out to be "hungry like the wolf."

Last we left the ABC comedy, Sam was running into financial trouble at the craps table in Vegas with her - yes - parents. When things got tough, it seemed as if her old boss Winston Funk could be just the person she needed to help her out of the jam.  Meanwhile, Dena was able to pull a fast one on Andrea after she reluctantly agreed to help improve Andrea's image in the media.

ABC Shuffles Comedy Block, Scrubs Shifts to New Timeslot

January 28, 2009

To make room for new shows, ABC has shuffled its Thursday night comedy block.  The new schedule, which was announced yesterday, effectively bumps off Scrubs at 8pm as it pairs up with the new series Better Off Ted every Wednesday beginning March 18.

Scrubs, which revolves around J.D. (Zach Braff) as an attending physician with his own class of interns to guide and mentor after surviving his internship and residency at Sacred Heart Hospital, is no stranger to schedule changes.  During its run on NBC, the series went from one timeslot to another.  At present, Scrubs is airing every Tuesday at 9pm on ABC with back-to-back episodes.

Billy Zane to Ask 'Samantha Who?'

December 27, 2008

After news of Mary Kate Olsen and Florence Henderson gracing Samantha Who?, it's someone from the famous tale of that sunken ship Titanic who will be making contact with Christina Applegate on the ABC series.  Last we checked, the Newly's decided to pack up and head out for a long-overdue family vacation to a lodge.  Meanwhile, Sam was met by some unexpected firend at the lodge, who turned out to be her childhood sweetheart.

Billy Zane, 42, best known for playing snobbish Cal Hockley – Rose's fiancée – in the 1997 blockbuster Titanic, will assume the role of Sam's ex, Funk, previously played by Timothy Olyphant who joined the cast this year.  Olyphant joined the cast of the critically acclaimed FX series Damages in June; as a result, he had to leave Samantha Who?? and have Zane replace him primarily because of scheduling conflicts.  The sophomore season of Damages, which will premiere January, will see Olyphant as Wes Krulik, a fellow group therapy participant and confidant to Ellen who gets entangled in her life.

Carol Brady Goes to 'Samantha Who?'

December 8, 2008

When Mary Kate Olsen guest-starred on a Samantha Who? episode around a month ago in November 10, a lot of viewers were pleasantly surprised that the girl can still act.  This shouldn't be a surprise, however, as just last year, the twin was on Weeds alongside Mary Louise-Parker as church girl slash druggie who got a little frisky with Silas Botwin (Hunter Parish).  On Samantha Who? Samantha (Christina Applegate) was sentenced to hours of community service after a traffic altercation, where she met Natalie (Mary Kate Olsen), a rebellious young woman who reminds her of herself.

Recently, Entertainment Weekly reports that good ole Carol Brady – or Florence Henderson in real life – will be gracing Samantha Who?? to play the titular character's grandmother when the season returns this January.  According to reports, she comes to town to help settle an argument between Samantha's mom, played by Jean Smart, and aunt, played by Christine Ebersole.

Mary Kate Olsen Appears on Tonight's 'Samantha Who?'

November 10, 2008

Christina Applegate is taking an Olsen twin under her wing on tonight's episode of Samantha Who?, which has been titled “Help!”  We'll see just who needs a hand, when petty crimes result in comic but critical consequences.

After incurring the wrath of a policeman for a traffic altercation, Samantha (Christina Applegate) is sentenced to hours of community service.  Excited to do something good for once, she finds this as an opportunity to give back to society.  She then meets Natalie (Mary Kate Olsen), a rebellious young woman who reminds her of herself. This wily, pre-accident version of Sam might give her a run for her money, literally.

'Samantha Who' is Almost There

November 3, 2008

While freshmen shows are eagerly anticipating their full season orders, some have already succeeded in landing a season, or at the very least, more episodes.  NBC has gone ahead to order a full season of Kath and Kim despite its mediocre ratings.  In fact, the network recently expressed their thoughts on the American rendition of the Australian original created by Gina Riley, Jane Turner and Rick McKenna, saying that it is one of those shows which they truly “believe in.”

Meanwhile, another network has stepped forward to bless a show for another additional episodes order.  On Friday, ABC ordered seven more episodes of Samantha Who?, which stars Christina Applegate as the titular character.
