Making her television debut on the daytime drama General Hospital, Marcil garnered several nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress and Hottest Female Star, winning a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress. Born on October 15, 1968 in Indio, California, the actress grew up in Palm Desert with her family. She began acting in many plays and local productions, even winning her sixth grade talent show. She attended Indio High School in her hometown, even becoming a member of the Circle Theatre Acting Company in Indio. She also studied law at the College of the Desert, Palm Desert, California. She soon pursued a career in professional acting, starring in several theatre productions before taking on the role of Brenda Barrett on General Hospital.
With her six-year run on the daytime series, Vanessa Marcil made her feature film debut opposite Nicholas Cage, Sean Connery and Ed Harris in The Rock. She then starred on the made for TV movie To Love, Honor and Deceive. She followed this up with a recurring guest role in the Steven Spielberg-produced drama High Incident. In November 1998, Marcil ventured into primetime television appearing as a series regular on Beverly Hills, 90210. She remained on the show for one season and half of the next, playing the character Gina. The next year, she starred in two independent films, Nice Guys Sleep Alone and This Space Between Us, allowing her to work with Sean O’Bryan and Jeremy Sisto. In 2001, Marcil was awarded the Sojourn Service Award for her support of Sojourn Services for Battered Women and their children. Her other television credits include appearances in Spin City, NYPD Blue and Crossing Jordan. In 2002, she was cast in the sci-fi film Storm Watch, before joining the cast of the NBC series Las Vegas as the wheeling and dealing casino host Samantha Jane Marquez.
