Thorsten Kaye was born on February 22, 1966 in Erfurt, in then East Germany. Growing up in the German town of Mainz, and later in London, England, he moved to the United States after being invited to study at the United States International University in San Diego on the back of a track scholarship. He initially majored in physical education, but later changed it to drama. He later graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit with a master’s degree in theater.
Kaye initially performed on stage, playing roles in different productions in Detroit and London. These include roles in plays such as Tartuffe, Macbeth, Love’s Labour’s Lost, The Taming of the Shrew and The Winter’s Tale. He then moved to Los Angeles, where he tried his luck acting for television. He appeared in the 1995 television movie Nothing Lasts Forever, before moving to New York to join the cast of the daytime soap One Life to Live.
Kaye appeared on the soap from 1995 to 1997, playing the role of Patrick Thornhart. After being involved in several relationships, his character was killed off (albeit offscreen) eight years after his departure on the show. In 2000, Kaye joined the cast of another daytime soap, Port Charles, in 2000. The spin-off of the popular General Hospital saw him play the role of Ian Thornhart, the twin brother of his character on One Life to Live. He was part of the cast until 2003.
In 2004, Kaye joined the cast of the daytime drama All My Children. This time, his character is a more high-profile one: Zach Slater, considered one of television’s most prominent anti-hero characters. He was one half of one of the soap’s popular supercouples, his character being romantically involved, and later married, with Kendall Hart (Alicia Minshew).
Kaye has been nominated for four Soap Opera Digest Awards and three Daytime Emmys, all on the back of his performances in One Life to Live, Port Charles and All My Children.
