Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Kevin Gillespie became known as an executive chef and partner at Woodfire Grill. After finishing at Art Institute of Atlanta, he has worked in all the prestigious restaurants in Atlanta. He has held positions at Atlanta Grill at the Ritz-Carlton, Two Urban Licks, and Woodfire Grill. Staples in his kitchen include banyuls vinegar, smoked pork, espelette pepper, lemon oil and lard. His favorite junk food, meanwhile, is hot wings.
In 2006, he joined the Bravo reality competition Top Chef. Despite losing to Michael Voltaggio, Gillsepie was hailed the Fan Favorite. He was also invited to compete in the Bocuse d'Or USA cooking competition. However, he declined to pursue it because he had little time to prepare. During the 2009 James Beard Rising Star Chef of the Year awards, he was able to reach the semi-final stage. He was also listed as one of the Top 5 rising chefs in the US by the Gayot guide in 2010.
