Biography

Born on June 26, 1980 in Los Angeles, California, Jason Schwartzman is an actor best known for his roles in several movies and as the lead on the HBO series Bored to Death. The son of actress Talia Shire and the late producer Jack Schwartzman, he is also a nephew of director Francis Ford Coppola and the cousin of Nicolas Cage, Sofia Oppola and Christopher Coppola. Schwartzman’s movie career includes The Darjeeling Limited, Rushmore, Shopgirl and Slackers. In 2006, he appeared in Marie Antoinette, playing King Louis XVI opposite Kirsten Dunst in the titular role. He’s also the drummer and songwriter for the band Phanton Planet, appearing in the music video for the rock remix of “It’s All About the Benjamins” by Puff Daddy. In 2007, he pursued an indie rock solo career via Coconut Records. He performs the theme song for Bored to Death, where he plays a writer who moonlights as an unlicensed detective.
