Jamaica-born Gene Folkes received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Morris Brown College. The Texas resident later found himself serving the US Air Force, in addition to working at a number of high profile financial companies. He held the position of financial advisor at the time, but he soon the economic recession struck and he was laid off. He then lived off his savings and retirement and hoped to obtain his own assisted living facility.
In 2010, Gene Folkes was chosen as a contender in the NBC reality competition The Apprentice. He was fired in the fifth episode of the series, despite winning the first challenge. He volunteered to leave the show and soon started his own company.
