Carrying the extra pressure of succeeding, D-Boy, sometimes known as Steven, is the only married man among the contestants of From G’s to Gents. The D in his name could just stand for Dad, because he also has a family he’s determined to support. He works as a dry cleaner in his hometown, because he finds strength in providing for his family. Despite being a G, he is certain that he carries a thoughtful persona that he has acquired as he matured.
D-Boy is a native of Detroit City, and believes that growing up on the wrong side of the tracks has made him a stronger person. Because of his upbringing, he thinks he has developed a “real” love of people, something that has been instilled in him. It also sets him apart from the other Gs. This love could be his ticket to being a true gentleman, learning style and etiquette that he has to hone.
D-Boy’s tastes in music include hip hop and RnB. He is a Capricorn who lists his mother as his hero. He also believes that a G is a distinct individual, and easy to recognize when he walks into a room. This Motor City mack wants to be recognized in a different light, shedding his tough exterior. With the added weight of having a wife and kids, D-Boy will see past that and think of the burden as something to keep him going. He knows he is a G, but he has proven to himself that he has what it takes to become a true gentleman. He also believes in the saying, “Dream as if you’ll live forever, live as if you’ll die today,” which is posted on his MySpace profile. The motto is something hopes to instill in his family as well, both to motivate and sustain them as he strives to succeed.
