Born on July 4, 1990 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Daveigh Chase is an American actress, singer and voice over artist. She was raised by her mother in Albany, Oregon before she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her career. At a young age, she began to develop an interest in the performance arts, singing and dancing in her hometown and other local areas. Her mother entered her in a Little Miss America Pageant, and she won the national vocal competition. When she was seven, she was signed by an agent who specialized in commercials. She then appeared in an advertisement for Campbells Soup. She also starred in a musical theatre production of Utah! by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Daveigh Chase was cast in a number of small roles in the 1990s. She appeared on television in Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, as well as on Michael Landon, the Father I Knew. She was also given roles in Charmed, The Practice, ER, The Lot and Yes, Dear. Her first feature films include 2001’s Donnie Darko and she was supposed to appear in Artificial Intelligence: AI, but her scenes were deleted. Her big break came in 2002 when she landed the lead role of Lilo Pelekai in the Disney animated movie Lilo & Stitch. She also lent her voice to the character Chihiro Ogino, the lead in the American dub of the animated Japanese feature Spirited Away. Both of these films have been recognized by critics. Spirited Away won 2002 Best Animated Feature Oscar, while Lilo & Stitch was nominated.
Chase is also known for playing Samara Morgan in the famous Hollywood remake of The Ring. In 2003, she was given the Best Villain award at the MTV Movie Awards. She was also credited in The Ring Two in 2005, because of the archive footage used. She can also be seen in Oliver Beene, The Rats, Carolina and 2003’s Beethoven’s 5th. She was then cast in 2006 as Rhonda Volmer, on HBO’s drama series Big Love. Leroy & Stitch, the follow-up to Lilo & Stitch also came that year, and Chase has also voiced the character of Lilo on the television spin-off of the original film.
