Daniel Craig is an English actor who became the sixth actor to portray the fictional secret agent James Bond in the long-running Eon Productions film series
Born on March 2, 1968 in Chester, England, Daniel Craig is the son of Olivia, an art teacher, and Timothy John Wroughton Craig, who served as a midshipman in the Merchant Navy. He is also known as the cousin of novelist Joe Craig.
Craig attended Hilbre High School and Calday Grange Grammar School in West Kirby. At the age of 16, he moved to London to join the National Youth Theatre and eventually studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
After appearing in several minor roles on TV, Daniel Craig landed his first leading role in the 1996 BBC television series Our Friends in the North. He then continued his relationship with the network as he starred in the 1997 Francis Bacon biopic Love Is the Devil: Study for a Portrait of Francis Bacon, portraying Bacon's jilted lover George Dyer.
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider marked Daniel Craig’s introduction to international audiences as Angelina Jolie's rival and love interest. Following the success of the movie, he continued his acting career in the United States in Sam Mendes's movie Road to Perdition, starring alongside Tom Hanks and Paul Newman. His also had other notable roles in films like Sword of Honour, The Mother, Enduring Love, Infamous and Steven Spielberg's Munich.
Following rumors that Craig had been named in the media as a possible candidate to portray James Bond, he eventually signed with EON Productions in 2005, becoming the sixth actor to portray the fictional secret agent. He made his debut as James Bond in the 2006 film Casino Royale, where he was nominated for a BAFTA award and won the Best Actor award at the Evening Standard British Film Awards.
