Take the BuddyTV Personality Quiz: Which Prison Break Character Are You?
Danay Garcia appears as one of the members of the cast in the Fox network's Emmy Award-nominated series Prison Break. She is a native of Havana, Cuba, and says that she enjoyed performing at a young age. She also practiced and danced ballet for more than 10 years. Garcia has stated that while she enjoys the attention of the public and the art of entertaining people, she realized for herself that ballet was a limited career, and she wished to expand into other forms of entertainment. She then began trying out for theater, signed up for modeling, and looked for job opportunities as an actress. She moved out of her hometown in 2004 and headed for Los Angeles to gain experiences for her acting, trying out new things in a different cultural setting.
In 2006, Danay Garcia landed a role in Danika as Myra. The DVD film features Marissa Tomei as the title character, who has disturbing paranoid delusions. Garcia was next seen on the acclaimed series CSI: Miami, as the character Camille Tavez on the episode “No Man’s Land.” Her next role became that of Sofia Lugo on the Fox network drama Prison Break, something Garcia became known for. Sofia was introduced during the show’s third season in the fall of 2007, as the girlfriend of James Whistler, played by Chris Vance. Sofia joins the forces of Lincoln Burrows outside the prison in order to find a way for Whistler to escape the Sona Penitentiary. Garcia continued to reprise this role, but it didn’t stop her from accepting a part in From Mexico with Love. The 2007 American film is an action-packed drama, which got Garcia in a leading role. She acted alongside Steven Bauer, Kuno Becker, Bruce McGill and Stephen Lang. Some of Danay Garcia’s hobbies include doing yoga and stretching exercises, even during her free time on the set of Prison Break.
