Beverly Johnson is an American supermodel born on October 13, 1952 in Buffalo, NY. She is considered as one of the most important figures in the modeling history, being the first black supermodel. Beverly Johnson rose to fame in the fashion world as the first African-American cover model of the American Vogue in August 1974. The cover was shot by known fashion photographer Francesco Scavullo. The said cover was very monumental since it dispelled the myth that white women would never buy a fashion magazine with a black model on its cover. Beverly Johnson has already graced over 500 magazine cover and was named as one of the 20th Century's 100 Most Influential People in the Fashion Industry by the New York Times. She was also featured on the cover of GLAMOUR's 50th Anniversary issue. Beverly Johnson has already appeared on various television programs including Girlfriends, Arli$$, and Law & Order.
